The Year 4 Cohort Kick-Off Event

The Process

The network met at The Curtis Hotel in downtown Denver. In a collaborative effort, school teams grounded themselves in our aim statement. We reviewed the updated Driver Diagram and Change Areas and discussed connections between their current work and the theory of improvement. The goal we set out to achieve was to select Change Ideas schools would like to test in their classrooms. Teams had the opportunity to select a change idea from the Kickstarter Menu created the by Math, MLE, and CRoT teams, or design change ideas of their own. As a network, we worked to identify a total of 3 change ideas to trial. School design teams will convene in early January to begin working through Plan, Do, Study, Act cycles to test a change idea.

The Change Areas

The three change areas we selected are:

  • My Favorite Mistake

  • Collaborative Structure Protocols

  • Student-to-Student Feedback Protocols

Reflections & Feedback

For our warm welcome participants reflected on 3 words they would use to describe how they hope students feel in their classroom and at school. This word cloud represents the sentiments shared within the network.

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Thank you for giving us food for thought to have meaningful conversations, and discuss math in a safe and welcoming space.

Next Steps

On January 3rd all schools in the network will meet again to begin the process of designing our first Plan, Do, Study, Act cycles. Facilitation Leads will participate in an additional session to support them in leading this work in their respective buildings. We are excited about the momentum created in December and are looking forward to continuing our journey of improvement in January!
